Our Mega Project: Valuing the human body — An initiative to foster better dietary habits and promote a healthy lifestyle. Awareness through online platforms

The problem statement: Human body suffers the most at the hands of humans themselves who tend to adopt unhealthy eating habits from childhood to maturity, causing health problems such as obesity, nutritional deficiencies and chronic diseases later in life.

Proposed Solution: We as a group looked around and have seen struggling individuals who need reliable advice and actionable guidelines to cater to their health problems. We decided to create an online platform (Instagram-Facebook) to raise awareness about certain health issues and then we also talked about healthy eating habits and exercises, and how they can be incorporated into our lives. The aim is to seek holistic living by promoting natural, nutritional and healthy diets along with weekly or bi-monthly series to talk about common health problems and their solutions. The idea was to promote lifestyle changes by posting facts and having live sessions rather than simply posting graphics as done by many health pages. We wanted to impact people, be it a small number.

Our plan of action over the last 15 days:
Due to COVID-19, we wanted to limit our exposure to the external environment so we wanted our project to be online and this did affect how we wanted to frame things around. However, we tried to ensure maximum online engagement. For that we came up with an idea of creating online platforms (Instagram & Facebook) to raise awareness about healthy eating habits and exercises, and how they can be incorporated into our lives. Unanimously a name was decided “Dietriffic”.

Then we started making daily posts to make sure people could get aware with the idea of what we meant by the page and how this could be helpful for them.

We tried to reach out to maximum people to increase the audience for the platforms by using personal networks. We tried increasing its outreach, sharing within our personal and public networks.
By far Facebook has had an outreach of about 1.3k and 300 likes.
Instagram has has a page following of about 2k people.

  • Then we divided tasks in such a way that each member was assigned to make something, for e.g. graphics, content creation, captions, managing the social media effectively.
Gantt Chart of 2-week update and task responsibilities
  • Once the pages were established and content sharing went live, we moved on to live sessions.
    1) A Healthy outside starts from the Inside moderated by Areej Ashfaq, guest speaker was Ms Areej Choudhary, a health sciences student and certified nutritionist. The session was very informative and covered all the in’s and out’s of holistic living and how lifestyle changes made major differences to one’s life.
Feedback: Dietriffic x Areej Choudhary

An elaborate blogpost had been written to write about the key points from the session and then it was shared on our social media handles, so that anyone who missed the live session could still get access to information that had been discussed.

Next up, we have another live session planned out and then there’s a series where we will talk about the paradoxical parallels of the world (Child obesity vs Malnutrition) Realizing that how the society is divided into two large classes: those who have more food than appetite and those who have more appetite than food, and how they affect us as individuals in their lifestyles.

Overall, the impact we’re trying to create has been in the right direction so far. The audience of the page has been appreciative of our efforts and there has been a great engagement in the live sessions too. The feedback we receive has always been incorporated for our future posts.

We plan to give free basic consultations for now, and after a community of nutrition experts and health professionals has been collaborated with Dietriffic, we plan to go for customized, paid consultations. This was we can attract people who aren’t willing to pay yet but are dispensed with information, catering to those as well who want to go one step ahead. Our aim is not to monetize through this platform yet, we want to promote healthy living habits for the public and later on take it further, if required.
